Ok, first off....what is my deal? I love the idea of blogging but I'm just having the hardest time getting into a rhythm here. Is blogging once every few months even blogging? I gotta find my stride.
Since I have something hilarious to discuss that is still officially a secret, I'm going to blog about it!
A little background...I'm the maid-of-honor in one of my best friends' wedding this August. We've done the bridal shower and it was an absolute HIT! However, Laura has been having a pretty rough time of late, and the most recent trial and tribulation was chipping a bone in one of her toes while doing nothing more than walking. (This sounds like something I'd do. Oh wait, I have done that, except it was a fracture in one of my foot bones.) Anyway, she's now in a walking cast and under doctor's orders to take it easy, which of course made our plans for a fun shopping/dining/exploring bachelorette weekend in Portland, OR null and void. And since Portland is a long way to drive to hang out in the hotel, we're sticking around Seattle instead.
This development materialized late last week and we were scheduled to leave for Portland this coming Friday morning. And for me, someone who loves to plan great and memorable parties, that is not much time to totally change it up.
After a few minutes of being disappointed and upset, I started to find the silver lining in this and realize that it was time to rally and make it a weekend to remember!
I think we have just that in store, with plans for mani/pedi's (no pedi for gimpy Laura!), a limo ride, fabulous dining, a super awesome improv show in Downtown Seattle, and a sleepover at my house! Laura is beyond excited and got over her own disappointment about the cancellation of the Portland trip about the time I mentioned "limo"....
But the BEST part? She doesn't have any idea! See, Laura has a "thing" for firemen. Just an innocent, cute, school-girl type crush on them. We had planned to do this in Portland too, and just this afternoon I stopped by my local fire station. Hopped out of my car to find three firemen standing around a truck talking (they said they were practicing knots, but I think they were sunning themselves in the fabulous afternoon weather we're having).
Anyway, I walk up and say hello and start out with "I have a pretty random question.."
They laugh and two of them point to the third guy and say that random questions are his specialty and to ask away.
After I introduce myself and say I live nearby, I start with "I'm hosting a bachelorette party this Saturday.."
Before I even got the full word "bachelorette" out of my mouth they were laughing again. Much more heartily this time, with comments like "yes" and "this could get interesting" sprinkled in.
After we're all done laughing, I explain my idea - which is to bring Laura by for pictures with the guys and trucks - and they're all over it. Brian, the one who's adept at handling random questions, says "I know what I'd say, but we better ask the big boss" and disappears to find Mr. Big Boss.
Of course Brian doesn't tell Mr. Big Boss who I am or what I'm there to ask, so he arrives outside and after introductions, I have to start all over with "So, this Saturday I'm hosting a bachelorette party...."
Cue another round of robust laughter and joking.
I could tell Mr. Big Boss was a bit more hesitant but as soon as I let him know that this part of the bachelorette party would contain zero alcohol consumption before or during, he was on board! Then the three first guys immediately started trying to swap shifts to get on the Saturday afternoon one!
So, we're going to blindfold Ms. Laura and uncover her eyes as soon as she's flanked by a couple of hunky firemen next to a shiny fire truck! FUN!
I'll post some pics in a few days!
